Jordan charges three with plot to attack intelligence building
Sep 2, 2009, 12:32 GMT
Amman - The trial opened in Jordan's State Security Court on Wednesday of three suspects accused of plotting to attack the building of the General Intelligence Department (GID) at the Palestinian refugee camp of Baqaa, 10 kilometres north of Amman.
Judicial sources said the tribunal charged the three men, one of them still at large, with 'plotting to carry out acts of terrorism and the illegal possession of machineguns'.
According to the indictment sheet, the three first plotted to attack Israeli targets through the border with Jordan in 2007 after Israel clamped a blockade on the Gaza Strip.
When they failed, they came up with a plan to attack the GID building in Baqaa earlier this year, but two of them were arrested in March 2009 before carrying out the operation.
