Work on Cairo subway causes street collapse

Cairo - Construction works for the new underground line in the Egyptian capital caused a 7-metre deep hole in a street in Bab al-Sharia district, media reports said on Friday.
Seven parked cars fell into the subsidence, but there were no reports of injuries.
Workers were digging 20-metres deep as part of construction works for the third subway line of underground, when the collapse occurred the independent daily al-Shorouq reported.
Al-Shorouq reported that six of the seven cars were recovered, whilst the first was so submerged it is to be concreted over when the street is repaved.
The owner of the car plans to the authority for damages reaching 120,000 Egyptian pounds (around 21,800 US dollars).
