US soldier killed in Iraq helicopter crash
Sep 20, 2009, 12:23 GMT
Baghdad - A US soldier was killed and 12 injured when a helicopter crashed at a base north of Baghdad, the US military announced Sunday.
The Blackhawk helicopter went down inside the joint base at Balad, around 80 kilometres north of the Iraqi capital late Saturday, the military said.
The soldier's name was being withheld until the soldier's family was notified.
Military aircraft crashes in Iraq have become more rare in recent years. In July, a US State Department helicopter crashed not far from Baghdad, killing two crew members.
