Egyptian mother-in-law killer wins lottery in jail
Oct 8, 2009, 9:08 GMT
Cairo - An Egyptian man jailed for killing his mother-in-law has won the country's lottery, netting one million Egyptian pounds (184,000 dollars) just days before being released, local newspaper reports said Thursday.
Emad Atnas, who was jailed for 20 years for killing his mother-in-law a few days before his wedding, will receive his check on Thursday after he is released from prison, the daily al-Ahram said.
When Atnas actually won the lottery - a few months ago - the bank could not initially find his address. After searching they found his father who told them his son was in jail and would be released on October 8.
Atnas' father said that he was the one who opened the 100-Egyptian-pounds savings account - which automatically enrolls in the lottery - for his son three years ago, hoping he would win and find some money when he is released, the paper added.
