Oct 14, 2009, 10:54 GMT
Sana'a - Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said on Wednesday that government forces will announce victory on the Shiite rebels in north-western the country 'in the next few days.'
'Victory is coming in the next few days, God willing,' Saleh said in a ceremony commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the independence of South Yemen from the British colony.
'Our armed forces are achieving great, great and great victories day and night,' he said.
Fierce battles have been raging between government troops and the Shiite rebels, known as Houthis, in the north-western provinces of Saada and Amran since August 11. The fighting is the latest round in the conflict that began in mid-2004.
