Eleven killed, 18 injured in Egyptian road accident
Oct 18, 2009, 12:44 GMT
Assiut, Egypt - Eleven people were killed and 18 injured when a minibus collided with a truck in southern Egypt on Sunday, police told the German Press Agency dpa.
The accident took place near the village of al-Badari, some 380 kilometres south of Cairo, as the two vehicles were both trying to overtake slower-moving vehicles, police said.
Sunday's accident was the latest in a string of fatal road accidents that have drawn attention to the hazards of driving in the North African country.
Twelve people were killed when a bus collided with a truck near the Red Sea port of Safaga on October 10. In July, 16 Egyptian workers returning from Libya were killed when their bus collided with a truck near the town of Minya, south of Cairo.
