Israel Railways plans to turn carriages into mobile lecture halls

Tel Aviv - Concerned that rail passengers might not find their journey stimulating enough, Israel Railways (IR) has hit on the novel solution of turning its carriages into traveling lecture halls.
According to the Ma'ariv daily Sunday, IR is to use academics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to lecture passengers between stations.
The 20-minute lectures will cover such topics as global warming, Albert Einstein's love letters, the secrets of the brain and the creation of the world.
'Our aim is to leave the campus and reach the public-at-large,' the Hebrew University said.
'From the point of view of the railways, (the lectures) are added value for the passengers; from out point of view, there will be a meeting between academics and the public at large.'
The lectures, which will be given free of charge, are set to get underway on November 14, on the route between the city of Modi'in, in central Israel, and Tel Aviv.
