Eight killed in eastern Yemen ambush

Sana'a, Yemen - Three senior police officials and five bodyguards were killed Tuesday after gunmen believed to be al-Qaeda members ambushed their convoy in eastern Yemen, a police official said.
The chief of the intelligence services in Hadhramout province, Ahmed ba-Wazir, the province's police superintendent, Ali al-Ameri, and deputy superintendent of the province's criminal police, Mahdi ba- Kwair, were killed instantly after the attackers opened fire on
their cars, the official said.
The official, who requested anonymity, said the attack took place on a desert road leading to al-Abr, an outpost on the border with Saudi Arabia.
