Hezbollah denies links with arms ship
Nov 5, 2009, 13:00 GMT
Beirut - The Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah strongly denied Thursday allegations by Tel Aviv that an arms shipment intercepted by Israeli commandos was meant for the group.
In a statement, Hezbollah's press office said 'We staunchly deny any link to the weapons that the Zionist enemy has seized from the Francop ship.'
The movement's television Al Manar also condemned what they described as the Zionists' 'piracy in international waters.'
According to Israeli reports the shipment which was intercepted on Wednesday had a large amount of weapons which were bound for Hezbollah from Iran.
The Israeli military said it had seized the 137-meter Antigua- flagged vessel Francop before dawn on Wednesday 100 nautical miles from the Israeli coast.
