Syria denies contact with Israeli media in Paris
Nov 17, 2009, 16:36 GMT
Damascus - Syria denied Tuesday that its foreign minister met with a member of the Israeli press in Paris last week.
'Syria categorically denied allegations made in the Israeli Maariv newspaper that a meeting took place in Paris between Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and the correspondent of that newspaper,' the official SANA news agency reported, quoting a government statement.
The statement said the report in Maariv was 'part of a series of fabricated lies.'
Maariv had reported over the weekend that its correspondent in Paris had spoken 'warmly' with al-Moallem, and that the minister had expressed hope that indirect talks between his country and Israel would soon resume in Turkey.
The last rounds of talks between the two countries, who do not have diplomatic relations, was hosted by the Turkish government but fell apart following the war in the Gaza Strip in December and January.
