Foreign Office checking "implications" of Livi case (Extra)
Dec 15, 2009, 12:26 GMT
London - The Foreign Office in London Tuesday said it would not comment 'for legal reasons' on the controversy surrounding a British arrest warrant issued for former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livi.
'We are not saying anything for legal reasons. This is a matter for the court,' said a spokesman when asked to comment on Israel's official condemnation of the step.
'We are looking urgently into the implications of this case,' a Foreign Office statement said.
It was reported Tuesday that a British judge, acting on request from solicitors representing Palestinian victims of this year's Gaza conflict, issued an arrest warrant ahead of Livi's planned visit to London last weekend.
However, the warrant had been withdrawn once it became clear that Livi had cancelled her participation in a Jewish conference.
