Dec 21, 2009, 14:56 GMT
Mosul - Five people were killed and seven injured in a suicide bombing in a northern Iraqi town on Monday, police said.
The head of the municipal council in the town of Tel Afar, Hussein Mohammed Ali al-Krish, was among the dead. The suicide bomber, who had the explosives strapped to his body, was also killed, according to police.
Tel Afar, which lies roughly 60 kilometres north-west of the city of Mosul, was the site of intense fighting after the 2003 US-led invasion.
In the central Mosul district of al-Karama on Monday, gunmen burst into the home of two brothers who work in the local police force, fatally shooting the brothers and injuring their mother.
A third policeman was killed in a separate shooting in the city, police said.
