Clinton says "root causes" of Yemeni problems must be solved (Extra)

London - The US stands ready to give comprehensive support to Yemen to tackle the 'root causes' of the country's problem, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said in London Wednesday.
Clinton, speaking after a meeting of 20 nations to discuss the growing terrorist threat from Yemen, said Washington had been 'encouraged' by the 'relentless pursuit of al-Qaeda' by the authorities in Sana'a.
'The problems of Yemen affect all of us in a very particular way,' she said.
'By doing so they have earned the support and cooperation of the international community,' said Clinton.
However, she warned that Yemen's many problems could not be solved by 'military operations alone.'
She urged the government to increase efforts to end the conflict with rebels in the north of the country.
The international community wished to work in conjunction with the government of Yemen to promote reform, fight corruption and create a better climate for investment, said Clinton.
'This must be a partnership if there is to be a successful outcome,' she said.
