Palestinian Authority gives Gaza report to UN chief (Extra)
Jan 29, 2010, 20:23 GMT
New York - The Palestinian Authority handed over to the United Nations on Friday a preliminary report on the fighting pitting Hamas against Israeli forces in Gaza Strip last winter.
Palestinian UN envoy Riyad Mansour said he gave the report to the chief of cabinet Vijay Nambiar at UN headquarters in New York. It would be up to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon whether or not to make it public.
Mansour declined to provide details of the report, saying it was a confidential report requested by Ban, who also made a similar request to the Israel government. Ban was asked by the UN General Assembly back in November to submit a report on the three-week conflict from December 2008 to January 2009 in Gaza.
