Mar 6, 2010, 10:40 GMT
Baghdad - A Sunni candidate belonging to the Iraqi Accord Front (al-Tawafuq) was arrested on Saturday under anti-terrorism laws, the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) said.
An IHEC source told the German Press Agency dpa that 'Iraqi security forces arrested the candidate Amer Mashkour al-Jabanni in the city of al-Hilla.'
Al-Jabbani is on the parliamentary ballot under the al-Tawafuq list in the city of al-Hilla, some 100 kilometers south of Baghdad.
Voting for the parliamentary elections in Iraq will begin tomorrow.
Al-Tawafuq is a Sunni coalition led by the Iraqi Islamic Party, the largest Sunni Islamist party in Iraq.
