Two police officers killed in attack in northern Iraq

Baghdad - Two Iraqi police officers were killed by an explosive device targeting their patrol unit in the northern city of Mosul, security forces said Wednesday.
The police patrol was moving through the area of New Mosul, in the western part of the city, when the device exploded, security sources told the German Press Agency dpa.
Iraqi security forces also announced that they arrested 26 people during a search operation in Mosul, which lies around 400 kilometers north of Baghdad.
Mosul and its surroundings are among the most ethnically and religiously diverse areas of Iraq, and among the most dangerous.
Despite successive security pushes that police say have netted hundreds of suspected militants in the last year, the city remains the site of near-daily fatal attacks.
