Apr 20, 2010, 13:38 GMT
Riyadh - Saudi forces have arrested 195 suspects who allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into the country, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
Mansour Al-Turki said in a statement that the security services were able to thwart the smuggling of heroin and hash, among other drugs, and arrest those involved during operations conducted in several areas of the kingdom.
He added that 108 Saudis were arrested, as well as 29 Pakistanis, 17 Yemenis, nine Syrians, a Turk, a Sudanese, an Indian and an Egyptian. Another 28 unidentified infiltrators were arrested.
More than eight kilos of heroin and two tons of hash were seized.
Last year, five Pakistanis had been arrested on charges of heroin smuggling. They were on their way to perform the Umrah, or the minor pilgrimage, when their travel agent gave them heroin hidden in gifts to a family.
