Serbia ordered to pay damages to Israeli spy firm
May 12, 2010, 8:32 GMT
Belgrade - Serbia lost a legal battle with an Israeli firm over a murky military contract and must now pay 36 million euros (47 million dollars) in damages, the daily Blic said Wednesday.
Belgrade signed a 45-million-dollar deal with the Israeli firm ImageSat to rent a spy satellite in 2005, then tried to back out of it.
Former Yugoslav defence minister Prvoslav Davinic was indicted for corruption in 2006 over the contract, which he reportedly signed without consulting the cabinet.
However proceedings against Davinic - who was separately also charged over overblown invoices for military equipment - did not progress beyond initial stage since they were launched in 2006.
