Sana'a, Yemen - A married couple from the United States who was kidnapped in Yemen has been released, the Yemeni government said on Tuesday.
The tourists are in the care of the Yemeni authorities, Numan Duid, governor of the capital of Sana'a, announced.
They were seized along with their driver on Monday by armed members of the al-Shirda tribe, as they drove on a highway linking the capital Sana'a with the Red Sea port city of Houdieda.
Tribal sources said the kidnappers were demanding the release of a fellow tribesman detained by police in Sana'a over a land dispute.
Last week, two young German girls were freed during a joint Yemeni-Saudi security operation. They had been seized last year, along with their parents, younger brother, two other German women, a South Korean female teacher and a British engineer.
