Lebanese president to hold a summit with Syria's Assad on Tuesday
Jun 15, 2010, 8:55 GMT
Beirut - Lebanese President Michel Suleiman will hold talks Tuesday with Syrian President Bashar Assad to discuss regional developments as well as the stalled peace process, a Lebanese governmental source said.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the growing role of Turkey and Iran in the region and the impact this could have on Lebanon, the source said.
Suleiman and Assad will also discuss the 15 agreements that were reached over the weekend during meetings of the Lebanese-Syrian Committee.
The memorandums included environment, economics, agriculture, education and high education, vocational training, consumer protection, justice, tourism and culture.
Syria was Lebanon's power broker until 2005, when relations soured following the assassination of former Lebanese premier Rafik Hariri in the same year. Ties were mended in 2009 when Hariri's son, current premier Saad Hariri, visited Damascus.
