Three killed, 11 injured in separate attacks in Iraq (Roundup)

Jul 13, 2010, 15:41 GMT

Baghdad - At least three people were killed and 11 injured on Tuesday in separate bomb blasts and attacks in various cities in Iraq, police sources and witnesses said.

A driver died when a bomb attached to his truck went off in near al-Jamhuriya Bridge, central Falluja, a police source told the German Press Agency dpa.

Two consecutive bombs detonated in al-Ameriya area of Falluja, which is the biggest city of Anbar province and lies 45 kilometres west of Baghdad.

The first bomb targeted Sahwa fighters, who are Sunnis who support the government in its fight against al-Qaeda and helped restore order in the country. A second went off ten minutes later in the same place after an army patrol passed by.

No one was injured in the two blasts, witnesses told dpa.

In eastern Baghdad, four policemen were injured when two roadside bombs subsequently went off near a checkpoint.

Seven protestors were injured when a roadside bomb hit a demonstration in al-Khales district, in the northeastern Baquba city, a source in al-Khales police said.

Around 500 people took to the streets demanding the execution of those involved in recent bombings in the district. On May 21, a car bomb killed 30 people and injured at least 80 in al-Khales.

Earlier on Tuesday, gunmen wearing military uniforms killed a man and his wife when they stormed the couple's home in al-Mahmoudiya city, south of Baghdad, police sources said.

Although the level of sectarian violence in the aftermath of the 2003 US-led invasion has fallen sharply in the past two years, political tensions continue amid the unresolved problem of forming a new government after the March parliamentary elections.
