Baghdad - Nine people were killed and three injured in a series of attacks in Iraq Monday - whilst a suspected al-Qaeda leader escaped police custody, security and media sources reported on Monday.
In the city of Ramadi, one man was killed and another injured in an attack by unknown gunmen, al-Yaqen news agency reported.
One person was killed and two injured by a bomb placed in their car in the city of Baquba, 60 kilometres northeast of Baghdad.
The bodies of five men who had been shot dead were discovered in a house in the city of Samarra, some 120 kilometres north of Baghdad.
The men were construction workers who had been rebuilding the Samarra police station and are believed to have been killed on Monday night, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.
In the city of al-Hilla, two boys were killed when a hand grenade exploded inside their home.
The source of the grenade remains unknown, al-Yaqen reported.
Meanwhile, an al-Qaeda leader escaped police custody four hours after Iraqi police arrested him.
Ahmed Jassem was arrested and placed in al-Jalula jail in the city of Baquba before he managed to escape, police said.
