Russia expresses "disappointment" at Israeli housing plans
Oct 16, 2010, 15:34 GMT
Moscow - Russia expressed Saturday its dismay over Israel's latest move in announcing new housing tenders for East Jerusalem, saying the step only boosts the atmosphere of mistrust and undermines the peace process.
A statement by the Foreign Ministry expressed its 'extreme concern and disappointment' at the Israeli move, which also runs directly in the face of international efforts to achieve a resumption of the direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
The ministry called on Israel to re-think its decision, which was announced on Friday when the Israeli Housing Ministry published tenders for 238 new housing units in East Jerusalem.
