Three killed in attacks in Iraq (Roundup)
Oct 28, 2010, 15:22 GMT
Baghdad - Three people including one policeman were killed and eight were wounded on Thursday in separate attacks in Iraq, security sources said.
Five gunmen wearing Iraqi military uniforms attacked the home of a Kurdish tribal leader identified as Walid Jalal Agha and kidnapped two of his daughters in the city of Kirkuk, some 250 kilometres north of Baghdad.
The gunmen tied up Agha during the attack, but he managed to disentangle himself and opened fire on the gunmen, killing one and injuring another.
Agha was unable to prevent the three remaining gunmen from kidnapping two of his daughters and escaping to an unknown location.
Agha later received a telephone call from members of the Iraqi militant group Ansar al-Sunna demanding the release of seven of their members from prison in exchange for the release of Agha's daughters, police said.
Separately, a policeman was killed and seven injured in a suicide car bombing targeting police headquarters in Bursa, just west of the city of Mosul. The bomber was killed in the explosion, according to the officials.
The injured policemen were taken to hospital.
Attacks on security forces have recently increased in Iraq, as a seven-month political stalemate surrounding the formation of a new government has dragged on.
