Israelis warned to leave Sinai peninsula immediately
Nov 12, 2010, 9:37 GMT
Jerusalem - Israel's Counter-Terrorism Bureau warned Israelis in the Sinai peninsula Thursday night to leave the area immediately, due to threats of abduction by a World Jihad-affiliated militant group.
A statement issued by the Bureau rated the threat as 'concrete, very high,' and said operatives of the Army of Islam group were currently in the peninsula, looking to kidnap Israelis.
In connection with this information, Israel last week assassinated a member of the group in the Gaza Strip who was involved in planning the attack, the statement said.
The statement also called on relatives of Israelis currently in Sinai to contact them and bring the warning to their attention.
Sinai is a popular vacation spot for Israelis, and the counter-terrorism bureau frequently issues advisories warning of a possible attack in the peninsula. The last warning was issued in April this year.
