Clash in Palestinian camp in Lebanon wounds six
Nov 20, 2010, 19:15 GMT
Beirut - At least six people, including a child, were wounded late Saturday when armed clashes erupted between rival Palestinian groups in a refugee camp in southern Lebanon, Palestinian and Lebanese sources said.
The clash erupted in the Rashidiyeh Palestinian refugee camp east of the southern port city Tyre when a man identified as Ahmad Raja clashed with the guards of a Fatah Movement office, a Palestinian source inside the camp said.
Raja used to be a follower of the hardline group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP), headed by Ahmed Jebril, the source said.
The clash started when a verbal dispute erupted between Raja and the Fatah guards. That escalated into a gunfight, during which six people, including Raja, were shot.
Raja, who is also wanted by the Lebanese judiciary, was transported to a hospital in the southern port city of Saida and is listed in critical condition, a Lebanese security source said.
