Iran hopes formation of new Iraqi cabinet a step toward stability
Dec 23, 2010, 11:08 GMT
Tehran - Iran on Thursday said it hoped the formation of the new Iraqi government would be a step toward peace and stability for its neighbour, the ISNA news agency reported.
'We hope that the formation of the new Iraqi government will be an important and positive step toward establishment of peace and stability in Iraq as well as more welfare for the Iraqi people,' Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said.
'Iran once again declares that it will fully stand beside the Iraqi government and people in the future,' the spokesman said.
Mehmanparast said Iran also hoped foreign military forces would soon leave Iraq entirely and allow Iraq to become an independent country.
The new Iraqi government, a coalition made up of all the key political groups that swept the March elections, was formed Tuesday after nine months of political deadlock.
