Jan 12, 2011, 13:40 GMT
Amman - The United States on Wednesday extended a grant of 100 million dollars in additional economic aid to Jordan to help the country address economic difficulties, according to a US embassy statement.
An agreement to this effect was signed by the Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jaafar Hassan and the US ambassador in Amman Stephen Beecroft.
The donation is designed to improve health and education services, promote economic and political development and support the country's balance of payments, the statement said.
'The funds highlight the strong and lasting commitment of the American people for Jordan's efforts to address its most pressing challenges,' it added.
Regular US aid to Jordan stood at 660 million dollars in 2010 - 360 million dollars in economic aid and 300 million dollars in military assistance - according to figures published by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
