Baghdad - At least six people were killed and 34 injured on Thursday by a car bomb blast in the district of al-Miqdadiya, security sources said, whilst a journalist was killed in a separate attack.
The blast came from a car parked near a police checkpoint in al-Miqdadiya, around 100 kilometres north-east of Baghdad.
In a separate incident, an Iraqi journalist was shot dead outside his home by unknown assailants in the northern city of Mosul, a security source told the German Press Agency dpa.
Hilal al-Ahmady, 50, was a well-known columnist for several newspapers in Mosul. The motive for his murder was not immediately known, security forces said.
