Six killed, al-Qaeda affiliate arrested in Iraq

Mosul, Iraq - Iraqi army forces arrested an insurgent affiliated with al-Qaeda on Tuesday, and six people were killed in separate attacks, according to security officials.
Army forces arrested the so-called finance minister of Islamic State of Iraq in the northern city of Mosul, an army source said.
Ibrahim Mohammad Ahmad is currently under investigation.
The Islamic State of Iraq is an umbrella organization made up of insurgent al-Qaeda-affiliated groups.
Also in Mosul, three gunmen were killed just after Iraqi forces opened fire on them as they were allegedly trying to plant an explosive device
An army soldier was killed when an explosive device attached to his car went off, and a University of Mosul professor was killed by gunmen near his home.
Four policemen were injured in a bomb blast targeting their patrol in western Mosul.
Located some 400 kilometres north of the capital Baghdad, Mosul is one of the country's most ethnically diverse and dangerous cities.
In central Iraq, a young man was killed by gunmen in Falluja city, a police source said.
Aswat al-Iraq news website reported that gunmen opened fire on the 18-year-old, who was with is father, using guns with silencers in central Falluja.
