Report: Websites of two Iranian institutions hacked
Mar 9, 2011, 16:20 GMT
Tehran - The websites of two Iranian institutions were hacked on Wednesday and false news distributed, the Fars news agency reported.
The institutions targeted were the clergy body of the Experts Assembly and the legislative arbitration body of the Expediency Council, Fars said.
The hackers disseminated a false news item about the sudden death of former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani, which was however immediately rejected by his office.
It was not clear whether the two sites were hacked from inside or outside the country.
Iran confirmed last year that some 30,000 systems belonging to industrial units had fallen victim to 'cyber-terrorism,' with numerous computers infected by a virus known as Stuxnet.
Reports have said that one of its targets was Iran's nuclear power plant of Bushehr in southern Iran, which could be the reason why full operation of the plant has been delayed.
