Egypt to hold parliamentary elections in September
Mar 28, 2011, 12:26 GMT
Cairo - Egypt's parliamentary elections are to take place in September, the ruling Higher Council of the Egyptian Armed Forces confirmed Monday.
However, a presidential election has not been scheduled, the Armed Forces said in a press conference.
The parliamentary elections had already been scheduled for September prior to last month's toppling of former president Hosny Mubarak .
Monday's statement by the country's military comes after the 518-seat lower house of parliament was dissolved last month, less than three months after the former ruling party obtained a landslide in elections marred by allegations of fraud.
It was not yet clear how many seats would be up for grabs in the next round of voting. Mubarak typically appointed 10 members of parliament.
