Jordan welcomes Palestinian Hamas-Fatah reconciliation
Apr 28, 2011, 14:36 GMT
Amman - The Jordanian government on Thursday hailed the Egypt-brokered reconciliation between the Fatah group of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and its Islamist rival, Hamas.
'Jordan welcomes any step that leads to the closing of the Palestinian ranks,' Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh was quoted as saying by the official Petra news agency.
Judeh expected the agreement which was concluded in Cairo on Wednesday to help the Palestinian people to 'regain their legitimate rights, including the setting up of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital'.
He urged the two Palestinian factions to speed up the implementation of the accord, saying the absence of the Palestinian unity had always been employed by Israel to justify its 'procrastination in approving the two-state solution'.
