Apr 29, 2011, 16:18 GMT
Cairo - As many as 22 people were killed and several injured on Friday when a bus crashed into the Nile River in Egypt's impoverished agricultural governorate of Beni Suief, according to state news reports.
The bus carrying 32 people was on a ferry that crashed into the shore as it was docking, tipping the bus over into the river.
People from nearby villages were the first at the scene, and helped rescue survivors and pull bodies out of the river.
According to local reports, 18 bodies have so far been pulled from the water, while 4 people remain missing. Among the survivors was the bus driver and a 12-year-old boy.
The bus passengers apparently were on their way to visit the graves of relatives on the opposite side of the Nile.
