Egyptian banker arrested in US on alleged sex charges

New York - Mahmoud Abdel-Salam Omar, a former chairman of the Egypt's Bank of Alexandria, has been charged with allegedly assaulting a New York hotel maid, news reports said Tuesday.
The 74-year-old Omar was arrested on Monday after a maid at the posh Pierre Hotel in Manhattan's Fifth Avenue reported to police that he groped and tried to kiss her inside room 1027 at the hotel.
New York's local television and newspapers reported the incident on Tuesday, just two weeks after Dominique Strauss-Kahn, then the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, was arrested for sexually assaulting a maid at the Sofitel, a French hotel in New York.
Strauss-Kahn will appear in court again on June 6 when formal charges will be made.
The news reports said the maid resisted Omar and reported the incident to police. Omar is now the head of El.Mex Salinas, a Middle East-based salt-mining company.
