Iranian dissident dies after hunger strike
Jun 12, 2011, 10:45 GMT
Tehran - Iranian dissident and journalist Reza Hoda Saber died Sunday of a heart attack while on a hunger strike, the ISNA news agency reported.
The 54-year-old Saber was on hunger strike for ten days in protest against the suspicious death of fellow dissident Haleh Sahabi during the funeral of her father Ezatollah Sahabi earlier this month.
He died in a Tehran hospital after he was transferred there from the Evin prison following the heart attack.
His sister, Firouzeh Hoda Saber, confirmed the death after she identified Saber's body at the coroner's office, ISNA said.
Saber was member of a nationalist movement and was jailed following the presidential elections in 2009 and the protests afterwards over alleged election fraud.
After Ezatollah and Haleh Sahabi, Saber is the third dissident who has died this month.
