Lebanese cabinet formed after five months of political vacuum
Jun 13, 2011, 12:24 GMT
Beirut- Lebanese Prime Minister Naqib Mikati announced Monday the formation of a 30-member cabinet after almost five months of political vacuum in the country.
'This cabinet will work on securing Lebanon's brotherly relations with all Arab countries,' Mikati said in a statement.
The new cabinet would work for all Lebanese, he added.
Mikati was appointed on January 25 to replace former premier Saad Hariri.
Hariri resigned after the militant Islamist group Hezbollah and its allies withdrew eleven of thirty cabinet members over a row regarding the UN's Lebanon tribunal.
The Special Tribunal for Lebanon was set up to prosecute those allegedly responsible for the 2005 assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri, Saad Hariri's father.
The tribunal is reportedly set to indict Hezbollah members with the assassination. The movement has denied any involvement.
