Saudi Arabia executes Indonesian woman
Jun 18, 2011, 15:02 GMT
Riyadh - An Indonesian woman was executed in Saudi Arabia on Saturday for killing a Saudi woman, the Interior Ministry reported.
Ruyati bit Saboti Saruna confessed to killing the Saudi woman with a machete, the official Saudi Press Agency reported. No details were given about the motives in the killing.
A royal order was issued for the execution after the sentence was upheld by the Court of Cassation and the Supreme Court.
Last week, Amnesty International condemned what it said is a sharp rise in beheadings in the oil-rich kingdom and urged authorities to halt executions.
The London-based group said Saudi Arabia has executed at least 27 people this year, equal to the total number put to death throughout 2010. The rights group says more than 100 others are on death row. Many of them are foreigners.
