Beirut - A bomb planted near a car exploded north of Beirut on Thursday, killing two people and wounding another, police said.
The bomb which exploded in the Antelias area, 15 kilometers north of the Lebanese capital, caused material damage and destroyed several cars, they said.
Earlier police reports said at least one person was killed and another was seriously wounded.
A Lebanese secruity source told the German Press Agency dpa, initial investigation showed that the blast was a result of a hand grenade.
'The blast targeted a car which belongs to the son of a Lebanese judge called Alan Farhat, but the person who was killed and the other who was injured were outside the car,' the source said, not specifying whether the victims were passers-by or were possibly the intended targets.
The blast took place in a mainly Christian neighborhood. Further details were not immediately available.
