Syrian refugees continue to flock into northern Lebanon
Sep 3, 2011, 15:49 GMT
Beirut - Syrian fleeing political unrest continued into neighbouring Lebanon, the state-run Lebanese news agency reported Saturday.
'In the past two months, the numbers of refugees reached 2,600,' an unnamed security source was quoted as saying.
They were mainly moving into the Wadi Khaled region near Lebanon's northern border, according to the report.
Security forces have tightened security at border crossings to prevent illegal migration.
Thousands of Syrians have fled to neighbouring Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey since the government crackdown on protesters since mid-March.
By United Nations estimates, more than 2,200 civilians have been killed by security forces.
