Israeli ambassador leaves Jordan in anticipation of protests
Sep 15, 2011, 6:17 GMT
Cairo/Beirut - Israel's ambassador to Jordan was heading home Thursday with other embassy staff over fears of violent demonstrations at its embassy complex in Amman, Arab media reported.
Ambassador Daniel Nevo and his senior staff were asked by their government to leave Jordan to avoid the planned Friday demonstrations in front the embassy in Amman, the Dubai-based al Arabiya channel reported.
According to the TV channel, only few embassy staff remained at the heavily guarded embassy in Jordan.
The move comes after the Israeli embassy was stormed last weekend by demonstrators in Egypt, forcing its evacuation.
