Gunmen fire at Russian oil company offices in Homs in Syria
Oct 8, 2011, 7:20 GMT
Damascus/Beirut - Unidentified gunmen fired shots at the offices of a Russian oil company in the central Syrian city of Homs without causing any casualties, Syrian state-run media reported Saturday.
The incident, reported to have taken place during the week, angered the Russian government and prompted their embassy in Damascus to adopt tight security measures.
The targeted offices belonged to Storey Trans GAS, SANA said.
Russia, along with China, on Wednesday vetoed a United Nations Security council resolution condemning the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in a move that has angered the Syrian opposition.
This is the first such attack on a Russian company since the uprising started in Syria in mid-March. Moscow is one of Assad's staunchest allies.
