Lebanon charges 10 suspects with planning attacks on UNIFIL
Oct 11, 2011, 21:09 GMT
Beirut - A Lebanese military court charged 10 Lebanese and Palestinians late Tuesday with planning to attack Lebanese troops and United Nations peacekeepers monitoring a fragile ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel in southern Lebanon, a judicial source said.
They were accused of belonging 'to a terrorism group, attacking civil and military institutions, and possessing arms and explosives that they used to terrorize people and attack United Nations Interim Forces in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL),' the source said.
The accused have been given prison sentences with hard labour of one to seven years, the source said.
UNIFIL patrols the southern Lebanese border with Israel and monitors a 2006 cease-fire that ended a 33-day conflict with Israel.
