Jordan to release more political prisoners, minister says

Amman - Jordan wants to release more political prisoners 'as soon as possible,' a minister said Friday, reaffirming plans by the newly installed government to carry out reforms.
The remarks by Media Affairs Minister Rakan Majali came a day after King Abdullah II pardoned 12 Jordanians jailed for plotting attacks in the monarchy, and the release of 15 Islamists held in April after clashes with police during a demonstration near Amman.
Judicial sources said the government was considering the release of another 88 Islamists detained at the same demonstration.
King Abdullah appointed a government headed by international jurist Awn Khasawneh with a mandate to implement political reform.
