Baghdad- The governor of the western Iraqi province of Anbar, Qassem al-Fahdawi, survived Monday an attempt on his life, an official in the province said.
The spokesman for Anbar Mohammed Fathi told the Iraqi website Al Sumaria News that a bomb exploded when al-Fahdawi's motorcade west of the capital Baghdad.
'The governor survived the bid unhurt while three of his guards were injured,' he added.
The explosion occurred a few metres from an army checkpoint in the area of Abu Gharib, some 20 kilometres west of Baghdad, said the official.
No-one immediately claimed responsibility for the attempt.
In December 2009, al-Fahdawi lost an arm in a suicide bombing.
