Iran's population reaches 75 million

Tehran - Iran's population has reached almost 75 million according to the latest census, the head of the Iranian Statistics Organization said Monday.
Adel Azar told official news agency IRNA the Iranian population had reached 74,961,702, showing growth of 1.3 per cent since the previous census in 2006.
The census was conducted between July and November.
The population was also gravitating towards cities, with the percentage of those living in urban areas increasing from 68 to 71 per cent.
Average family size decreased from 4.1 members in 2006 to 3.6 per cent.
