Two Palestinians killed in Israeli raid on Gaza
Jan 18, 2012, 12:15 GMT
Gaza City - Two Palestinians were killed and three seriously injured on Wednesday when Israel raided an area north-east of Gaza City, said Gaza emergency services chief Adham Abu Salmeyeh.
The five men were riding a donkey cart near the border with Israel, witnesses said. They said they heard a loud explosion.
An Israeli army statement said the five were militants and that the blast originated from an explosive device they were carrying.
It said they had been intending to plant the device near the security fence on the Israel-Gaza border.
Israel fired missiles from the air and artillery shells from forces stationed on the border at the group to foil their attempt, it said.
