Jordan detains former lawmaker over incitement against monarchy

Amman - The prosecutor of Jordan's military court has detained a former lawmaker for inciting against the ruling monarchy, judicial sources said on Friday.
Ahmad Abbadi will be detained for a minimum of 14 days, pending an investigation of remarks deemed by the prosecutor as 'incitement against the country's regime', the sources said.
Abbadi was arrested late on Thursday after he failed to report to the prosecutor for questioning.
Dozens of his supporters demonstrated in Amman on Friday to demand his release.
Local media said Abbadi had called in a televised interview for abolishing the monarchy and replacing it with a republic.
