Report: After Barbie, Iran bans sale of Simpsons dolls
Feb 6, 2012, 10:54 GMT
Tehran - An Iranian state-run agency has banned the sale of dolls of the Simpsons cartoon, a newspaper reported on Monday.
The Sharq daily quoted Mohammad-Hossein Farjou of the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children as saying that the ban did not include Superman and Spider-Man, because they 'supported the oppressed.'
The Simpsons join Barbie dolls on a long list of toys, movies and music that are banned in Iran, which says it is protecting its people from 'Western cultural invasion.'
Iranian police last month closed down dozens of toy shops for selling Barbie dolls, which the agency deems as 'Torjan horse' that poses a cultural threat to Iranian kids.
Iran has a conservatively-dressed versions of Barbie: Sara and her brother Dara.
