Report: Arab League to discuss recognizing Syrian opposition
Feb 9, 2012, 8:35 GMT
Riyadh - Arab League foreign ministers are to discuss the possible recognition of the Syrian National Council as the main opposition group at a meeting in Cairo on Sunday, reported the Saudi semi-official newspaper Al Sharq citing Arab sources.
The move is based on remarks made recently by Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal that recognizing the Syrian opposition group will be handled 'within an Arab framework', the report Thursday quoted unnamed sources as saying.
'The ministers will also look into urgent solutions to stop the killing machine in Syria,' it said.
